A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket: Recommended by Amber 7W

I’m sorry to say that this is a very unpleasant book about three young Baudelaire orphans, who sadly lost both their parents in a huge fire. They are taken away by the bank manger Mr Poe, who always has a cough. Mr Poe takes them everywhere, from a lake with man-eating leeches to a lumbermill and a city infested with crows. However, all this is no use, because the notorious villain Count Olaf always manages to find them, each time with a cunning new plan to steal their inherited fortune.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins: Recommended by Chloe 8W

If you enjoyed the Hunger Games, why not go back to the beginning. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes tells the story of eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow who is a mentor in the tenth annual Hunger Games. He is the mentor of Lucy Gray Baird, a girl from district 12, considered the lowest of the low. Their fates are intertwined. When all the odds are against them who knows if they will succeed. Who knows who’ll be the last one standing. This book is full of friendship, authority, betrayal, and thrills.

The Curse Breaker series by Brigid Kemmerer: Recommended by Lily 9B

If you are looking for a book series which is an exciting romantic adventure, with a touch of fantasy mixed in, then this is the series for you!

This story inspired me with the idea of being a leader and supporting the choices of the ones you love. The main character, Harper, shows you how something which seems to be terrible and hopeless can actually be what brings you to your big and meaningful destiny.

The Curse Breaker series gives you the perspectives of four different individuals, telling one story in many different views and ways.

The first book is a Curse So Dark and Lonely. I would also highly recommend other books by Brigid Kemmerer.

If you like crafting, doodles and never-ending humour this book is for you. Tom is looking forward to the end of term when he is going on holiday with his family to the ‘Pine Trees Riviera’. But with his sister Delia never smiling and the campsite they are staying on being the most boring ever, he struggles to keep himself entertained and out of trouble. This is a book for people who need a laugh.

Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan; Recommended by Charles 7B

Riordan has done it again! If you enjoy Norse mythology or Percy Jackson, then this series is for you. In this second book of the series, Magnus and his friend need to find Thor’s hammer which has fallen into the hand of the giants. They must find if before Loki, God of trickery. If they don’t Ragnarök will begin, and the Nine Worlds will burn. I would give this book four out of five stars.

Witch and Wizard by James Patterson: Recommended by Raphael 7B

I read the graphic novel version of the Witch and the Wizard. The artwork was amazing, and the story well written with relatable characters who had a clear mission. The plot is of a brother and sister who are forced to go on the run because of their magical powers, whilst trying to defeat the ‘One Who is the One’. At the same time, they are seeking their parents and trying to learn how to control their magic. I highly recommend this amazing book and give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy the graphic novel version, the full-length paperback edition is also available in the school library.
